Training for the real fire, before it happens
A virtual reality training system built with the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Academy — recreating both the academy itself and a real building that burned, so instructors can run scenarios that would be impossible, unsafe or unaffordable to stage live.
The scenarios that kill firefighters are the ones you cannot rehearse.
A live burn tower teaches a great deal, but it cannot be a crowded shopping plaza with blocked exits, failed fire suppression and civilians on the upper floors. Rescue 1122 instructors described the same limit repeatedly: recruits can be drilled on procedure, but rarely on judgement under conditions that resemble the incidents they will actually be sent to. Virtual reality closes that distance at a cost the service can carry.
Designed inside the academy, not for it
The system was specified from the instructors' own practice: how they brief, what they watch for, where recruits reliably fail, and which errors are too dangerous to let a trainee make on a real ground.
This remains our clearest example of a government partnership: a public emergency service as the client, its own trainers as the design authority, and its own site as the first thing we modelled.

Two environments, both real
Fidelity to actual places is the point. A recruit should recognise the ground when they arrive on it.
The fire academy itself
The training ground rebuilt to match the real site, so the virtual system slots into an existing curriculum instead of competing with it. Recruits learn equipment and drills in a space they already know, then carry that into scenarios the tower cannot produce.
Hafeez Center
The Lahore electronics mall that burned in October 2020, reconstructed as a scenario environment: dense shop units, narrow circulation and the access problems that make a commercial fire different from a training burn. A known incident becomes a repeatable lesson.

Public safety is a design problem too
Emergency services are judged on decisions made in minutes by people trained months earlier. Designing that training well — with the trainers, in their own environment, against incidents their city has actually had — is as much service design as any counter or form.
